Earlier today, Canada and Switzerland played one another in their final World Cup Group stage match in order to determine who would finish first in Group B.
But prior to that match, we got the chance to hear from a pair of soccer fans in Terrace, Dan Styles from Canada and Corina Wicki from Switzerland, who also doubled as a couple that had split allegiances for the game due to their differing nationalities.
But even if the couple were cheering for opposing sides during the game, they did agree that Canadian fans would be louder at the Watch Party for the game taking place in George Little Park.
While Dan and Corina hadn’t made any bets with one another on the game at the time of the interview, they did mention that a wager between them would likely involve a small amount of money or cooking for one another.
Dan also gave a bit of background on how he grew to have an appreciation for Switzerland sports even before he met Corina and why this game is so meaningful to the couple;
“I grew up very close to a Swiss woman, her family is practically extended family. So I’ve always been a huge fan of Swiss sports because of that and I would always cheer for Switzerland in Football. Now I have the opportunity to support Canada, I have national pride, they are my team. But I also love Switzerland and I love being able to watch a sporting event with two teams that I grew up liking. And I have the added benefit of being with Corina and having travelled to Switzerland while also making more Swiss friends.”
Although the couple confirmed that they hadn’t watched a game of this magnitude together before, they hopefully had an experience that they weren’t likely to forget anytime soon.
