According to Smithers Fire Department Member Sean Rowell, at around 5 AM this morning, the Smithers RCMP got word that a structure fire had emerged on Victoria Drive, resulting in a full commercial building being burnt down and that street and part of 19th avenue being briefly closed.
Members of Smithers Fire Rescue, volunteers and the Telkwa Fire Department made it to the scene and they were eventually able to contain the blaze without any first responders getting injured, although residents with respiratory issues were advised to avoid that area while smoke still lingered there.
The Town of Smithers thanked the first responders for their work containing the fire, although there currently isn’t any word on what might of caused the fire.
