The Kitimat RCMP recently provided some context on what cases they encountered at the end of April.
One of the cases that they publicized was a fraud case where a victim came and told them directly about an email they got that they believed was from their boss.
The email ended up costing the victims a few thousand dollars by tricking them into sending pictures of Apple Gift Cards and their activation codes through a chatting app.
The victim eventually realized that they were being scammed and once the Police were told about it, it was discovered that the messages were coming from overseas.
This case is being used as a reminder for residents to watch out for scammers.
