New international LNG supply agreement drawing backlash

A new LNG supply agreement between Canada and Germany is generating quite a bit of backlash from various Indigenous, legal, economic, environmental and health organizations.

The agreement has also led to the opponents of the proposed Ksi Lisims LNG project and other associated infrastructure like the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Pipeline, vowing to intensify their opposition.

This news comes as several community forums are being held in impacted communities, such as Kitimat, about growing health concerns associated with LNG flaring and industrial expansion.

Several organizations like the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and the Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment have been calling on the Federal Government to halt projects like Ksi Lisims, give respect to ongoing Indigenous legal proceedings and align Canada’s energy policy with domestic and international climate commitments.
