Another part of the Riverboat Days celebrations on Monday included the annual Rotary Club of Terrace Wild Duck Race.
That event sees 4,000 or so rubber ducks dropped from a helicopter into the back channel of the Skeena River and they race to the finish line and whoever’s duck wins, would get a grand prize of $25,000.
Manuela Krisinger, the Rotary Club of Terrace President and race organizer talked a bit about how her own experience with the race was while outlining what the proceeds from the event would go towards;
“It was my first time on the boat and it was a blast, so I hope it was fun for everyone involved, the spectators, all the Rotary Club members out here helping retrieve the ducks. All the proceeds will stay here in Terrace, most of it will go to our youth. We support sports, the arts and music so it will do a lot of good for a lot of people.”
This event is the culmination of several months of work and received help from the likes of Terrace Search and Rescue to fully come together.
As for who came away as the big winners this year, Elliott Good took home the 1st place $25,000 cash prize, Andrew Versolatto came in 2nd and got a half and hour helicopter ride from Canadian Helicopters, Chris Collins got the 3rd place $500 Safeway Gift Card and Mona Houlden won the 4th place $500 Canadian Tire Card.
CFTK-TV was able to catch up with grand prize winner Elliott Good and learn how he felt winning such a substantial amount of money while also mentioning what he might do with the money;
“It was amazing to hear the Mayor call me and say you just won $25,000. It’s going to help with bills and get the kids back to school and maybe even some repairs on the truck.”
This year’s race ended up selling out it’s tickets and the Rotary Club will likely aim to at least match that total in the future, if not surpass it.
