The Town of Smithers is set to start it’s annual Spring Water Main Flushing Program at the beginning of May and will last until around the end of June.
This program will see a controlled amount of chlorine get added to the water system sometime around April 20th, two weeks before the flushing takes place, in order to disinfect the water.
Residents may notice their water being discoloured during that timeframe but all people have to do is run their tap until it clears up.
A chlorine odour or taste might be noticed by residents in their water as well and to fix that, the water can be left to sit uncovered for a little while or boiled.
