A brand new purpose-built Foundry opened up at the start of the week in the City of Terrace.
One of the main goals of the Foundry is to provide young people with a place to get mental health support and Melanie Leier, a young lady who gave a speech at the building’s opening ceremony, gave some context as to how the Foundry has helped her in the past;
“For me, the Foundry has always been open and a safe place for me to go because when I had trouble with my parents, it was always a place where I could be myself and talk to people about how I was feeling.”
Leier also expressed her excitement at Terrace’s Foundry being an even bigger building and having more services available.
She then disclosed what she would say to someone who might be seeking some help from the Foundry as well;
“They don’t have to worry about being judged because the peer support workers have lived experience, so they’re not going to judge you for what you say to them or what you’re going through.”
The new building will occupy about 7,500 square feet on the ground floor and offer mental-health and wellness services for people between the ages of 12 to 24 and their families.
The Terrace & District Community Services Society will be the ones operating the centre.
