It’s finally market season again, and the Skeena Valley Farmers Market is gearing up for a busy opening weekend - as the forecast is cooperating with warm temperatures and blue skies expected.

The Farmers Market has become a Terrace staple over its 43 years of operations, bringing in vendors and customers from across the Skeena Valley.

Over the years, the market has grown and changed significantly - but also many of the familiar faces you’ve come to know over the years are still regulars, be it vendors or visitors.

Another thing that hasn’t changed - The Skeena Valley Famers Market always brings out the best of the region, be it vendors, local wares, or music; and this year’s market is expected to be no different; with opening day being this Saturday, May 2nd. Market manager Mike Cotton says it’s one to look forwards to;

“We’ll have some opening remarks and land acknowledgements from David Wells of Kitsumkalum, Chief Bennett from Kitselas, and we also have the mayor of Terrace, Sean Bujtas joining us. And we are also lucky enough to have the Terrace Pipes and Drum band joining us along Market way from 11:00 am. Other than that, we’re just happy to have all our regular vendors coming back. The farmers, the artisans, the kids selling lemonade, all the things that make the Skeena Valley Farmers Market a special place. Opening weekend is looking like it’s going to be fantastic weather. And we look forward to everybody coming down to join us.”

And for those interested in selling their wares - all seasonal vendor spots are full for the season but they do have a drop in vendor’s list. And Mike says come hungry - as the market will welcome many food vendors new and returning this year.

“We’re really hoping to see the market grow, in terms of visitation, and supporting local vendors.”

There’s no entry fee, and everyone is welcome. It’s all about bringing people together after a long winter.

“It’s a community gathering place. I love seeing the front of the stage when the music is playing, and there’s so many families and friends meeting up here. Doing some shopping, but also just hanging out and enjoying this great place that we’ve been afforded here, at the community gathering place.”

Located adjacent to George Little Park on Market st., the Skeena Valley Farmers Market runs every Saturday morning from 9am to 1pm, May through October.
