Terrace Mayor and Council disappointed by downgrade in Joe’s Place security

The most recent regular Terrace City Council saw an update on the situation from a previous meeting involving the Joe’s Place Emergency Shelter.

Back at the end of February, the shelter was set to lose it’s funding from BC Housing that provided security for the building and it was suggested at the time that the City write a letter to the Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs about it.

Christina Boyle recently responded to a letter from the City, saying that the shelter will still have security in the form of one security guard for 16 hours a day and that the Ksan Society already has a more comprehensive Site Security and Safety Plan.

Several councillors were disappointed in this response and Mayor Sean Bujtas was no different with him saying that this is still a reduction from what was there before.

Bujtas next said that they should continue to talk to the Ministry about this and that if he got the chance to talk to Minister Boyle soon, he would.
