Last week saw the 2026 edition of the BC Pickleball Provincial Championships take place in Tsawwassen from July 22nd to 26th.
And the City of Terrace was well represented at the tourney, with several members of the Terrace Pickleball Club not only attending, but taking home hardware as well.
Medallists from the Terrace Pickleball Club included Anthony Magliocchi winning Silver in the Men’s Singles 35 to 49 4.0 group, Shelly Haynes-Marrelli winning Gold in the Women’s Singles 50 to 59 3.0 Group, Regina Williams winning Gold in the Women’s Singles 60 and up 4.0 group well as Silver with Jeany de Wit in the Women’s Doubles 4.0 division, Tim Tam and Rick Tabata won Gold in the Men’s Doubles 60 and up 4.5 division, Siobhan Compton and Jennifer Hidber won Silver in the Women’s Doubles 13 to 34 3.5 group, Tabata and Mubina Allidina won Silver in the Mixed Doubles 60 and up 4.5 Group and Riaan de Wit and Eric Andreas Metzmeier grabbed Bronze in the Men’s Doubles 60 and up 4.5 division.
Dan Hamel, President of the Terrace Pickleball Club, gave some insight into how the club was originally built and how it’s grown since it’s inception;
“We started about 3 and a half years ago and we wanted to become a club so we could get the new courts set up. We probably had about 30 to 60 dedicated players initially and last year we got up to about 190, we’re sitting at about 177 now. But as soon as those news courts came, the amount of youth and people that are coming out and playing is just unbelievable. We always had a small handful of people going to tournaments regularly and now, there’s more and more new faces coming out and joining us. We’re one big family now when we go out and cheer each other on, we’re a very supportive group. It’s awesome.
One player also mentioned how a lot of people at the tournament didn’t know where Terrace was before, but the impression they left means they won’t forget Terrace anytime soon.
