The City of Terrace sent out a statement stating that the RCMP and the Terrace Fire Department communicating that the fire at the bowling alley started at the north exterior corner of the bowling alley and deemed two people suspicious with respect to this incident.
The building is not set to be be demolished. And the Fire department has requested the public to stay clear of the area so that contractors and crews can complete the work safely and efficiently.
The Terrace fire department, which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, dispatched two career firefighters in less than 2 minutes since they received the call.
The crew was quickly supported by nine off-duty career firefighters. and Fire Chief Brousson as Incident Command, and the Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department through the automatic mutual aid agreement.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames at the front north corner of the building. And the fire had already extended into the roof and attic space.
Initially, the fire growth was not described as so serious, crews but later the crew transitioned from an interior fire attack to a defensive operation to ensure firefighter and public safety.
As portions of the roof assembly began to collapse, an excavator was brought in to assist firefighters in safely exposing hidden fire and helping bring the incident under control.
The Terrace fire department extended their gratitude to the Thornhill Fire Department, BC Emergency Health Services, RCMP, City staff, and all supporting agencies for their professionalism and teamwork throughout this challenging event.
